Despite having stayed here for more than 5 years, these Chinese spouses are unable to get permanent residents status, and hence are denied the opportunity to work.
They calimed they had problems even getting the application forms from the les-than-friendly officers at the deparment.
When the immigration offcers learn that we are Chinese nationals, they refuse to sell us the application form, lelling us that there are no rules that say Chinese nationals can apply for permanent resident status. Those who managed to get the form and submitted their applications do not get any reply from the department" some of the Chinese spouses said.
Meanwhile, Immigration director-general Datuk Wahid Md Don denied the department has been rejecting PR application by Chinese wives.
He also said there are no rules to bar any national from applying to become a permanent resident in Malaysia.

Raja Zarith: Internet Being Used to incite Hatred

The availability of information on the internet, which should foster tolerance, understanding and acceptance among its users has ironically done the opposite.
Raja Zarith Sofia Sultan Idris Shah , consort of Tengku Mahkota of Johore, said there seemed to be less trust and greater paranoia now, although technological advancements had enabled more interaction among people.
"The question whouild all ask is thether we use the internet for more noble purposes or to incite hatred and anger.
"It's rather alarming because you cannot believe everthing on the internet," she said in her address, A global warning: The more we know, the less we understand at Solls, Intec 2009 International Conference on Language and Culture: Creating and Fostering Global Communities in Putrajaya recently.
Unfortunately, instead of going to online newspaper websites, many Internet users would rather go to sites like YouTube, Raja Zarith said, citing one video that had received over three million hits, which claimed that there was a subliminal message in the Disney certoon Aladdin for teenagers to take their clothes off.
"It is alarming when messages like these are taken seriously by YouTube viewers," said Raja Zarith.
